Weekly Athletic Report

Good Morning Palmyra School District! FROM THE DESK OF ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, Mike Papenberg: Be sure to come out to support the PHS Wrestling Team TONIGHT as they host their first home NJSIAA playoff match in over 20 years! They take on Spotswood at 6PM- WEAR YOUR CHERRY & WHITE. 

Here is a look at how our student-athletes performed last week as our athletic teams went undefeated:

The Wrestling Team continued its impressive season racking up 2 more wins.  On Tuesday, the squad defeated Triton High School, 56-24.  Winners on the mat for the Panthers included Danica Haines, Juell Anthony, John Miles, Zach Warnock, Jesse Domask, Pat McCarron, Tyler Domask and Zack Kahana.  On Thursday the Panthers beat St. Joseph’s of Hammonton by the score of  51-18.  Pat McCarron and Tyler Domask were the big winners on the mat for the Panthers.  The 12-6 Panthers will host Spotswood tonight in the PHS gym starting at 600PM for an opening round NJSIAA playoff match.  Come out and support them!

The Girls Basketball Team also continued to add wins onto their impressive record.  The girls went 3-0 on the week to improve to 18-1 on the season and they clinched the BCSL Freedom Division Championship with their win over Doane Academy on Friday.  Last Monday the girls defeated Riverside High School, 41-25.  Liz Shover scored 11 points while Olivia Falicki added 10.  On Wednesday the girls beat Florence High School, 47-28.  Ashanti Taylor led the way with 16 points and 14 rebounds while Liz Shover added 14 points and 11 rebounds.  The girls then clinched the BCSL Freedom Division Championship with the 55-19 blowout win over Doane Academy.  Ashanti Taylor paced the Lady Panthers with 19 points while Olivia Falicki added 11.  The 18-1 girls return to action tomorrow at New Egypt.  See some of the latest press on the Lady Panthers below:

The Boys Basketball Team is also enjoying a hot streak.  The boys went 2-0 on the week and have won 4 in a row.  The boys beat STEM Civics 55-45 on Monday. David Huesken scored 12 while Chris McCarron added 11 and Kwinten Ives chipped in 10.  The boys finished off the week with a 54-51 victory over Riverside High School.  Freshman Kwinten Ives led the way with 20 points while Chris McCarron and David Huesken each added 10 points apiece.  The Panthers will take on Maple Shade tomorrow at 5:15 in the PHS gym.  The Panthers improved their record to 7-12 on the year.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS:

The Middle School Wrestling Team concluded their season with a match against Maple Shade on Monday.  Trevor Young won his match to finish his Palmyra Middle School career undefeated.  Nick Adams, Toaha Sajim, Aidan Hines, Ian Smith, Samantha Domask and James Chinen all won their matches against the Wildcats.

The Boys Middle School Basketball Team concluded the 2019-2020 season with a 54-23 victory over Doane Academy.  The Panthers were led by Evan Mongomery’s 14 points and Mike Moritz’s 8 points.  Six 8th graders played in the final game of their middle school careers each scoring points to help seal the victory.  Panther 8th graders were Victor Martin, John Bilkins, Jashir Bridges, Cory Knox, Ritchie Butler and Jase Jennings.  The Panthers finished with a 12 and 5 record and demonstrated a level of team play and sportsmanship that the Palmyra School community can be proud of!  Congratulations on a great season! 

The Middle School Girls Basketball Team completed their season with a 36-18 win over Doane Academy on Wednesday.  The girls finished their season strong with a final record of 7-8.
