World Autism Month

While World Autism Awareness Day takes place on April 2nd every year, the entire month of April is World Autism Month.  As the website, autismspeaks.org shares, this year’s theme is Together We Stand for a World of Difference.

“There is no one type of autism, but many. Autism, or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication. According to the Centers for Disease Control, autism affects an estimated 1 in 36 children in the United States today.”   To learn more, to find out more about identifying autism, and to find ways to support families dealing with autism, check out the autismspeaks website.

Locally, our district SEPAC Committee- Special Education Parent Advisory Committee- is a group that works together to share needs for special ed programming while working collaboratively with staff and administration. Details on the SEPAC group are located on the Student Services page of the district website. (look for our SEPAC logo on events planned for everyone, especially families in need of Student Services)
