Winter Sports Update featuring girls basketball

-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports:                           Good Morning Everyone and Happy New Year! WINTER BREAK was filled with busy & successful schedules for our high school teams! Here’s a look at how our “resting students” performed last week during break:

The Boys Wrestling Team hosted the annual Palmyra Holiday Wrestling Tournament in the PHS Gym and had one of their best tournaments in recent memory.  The team finished in 3rd place overall out of the 8 teams competing. 

  • Trevor Young won the 132 pound bracket and was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler by the coaches
  • Pat Daly, Deakon Haines and Aidan Hines finished in 2nd place in their weight class
  • Blake Wood, Elliot Jackson, Chace Mulherin and Steven Hankey finishing 3rd in their brackets


The Girls Wrestling Team traveled to Brick High School for the Zoo Mustang Tournament.  The girls had a wildly successful day! 

  • Samantha Domask won the heavyweight championship at the tournament 
  • Mailee Kahana and Kylie Taylor-Christian both took 2nd place in their weight classes at the tournament

The Girls Basketball Team is off to a torrid start!  The girls won the Pitman Holiday Basketball Tournament with wins over Gloucester City High School and Pitman High School.  The girls opened the tournament with a 48-33 win over Gloucester.  Cadence Anderson was the top scorer, scoring 28 points in the win.  The girls then faced the hosts, Pitman High School, in the championship game and defeated the Pitman Panthers, 50-29.  Cadence Anderson scored 17 points and had 10 steals.  Anna Paszkiewicz added 14 points.  Kiley Hines chipped in 14 rebounds.  Kiley Hines and Cadence Anderson were named to the All-Tournament Team.  The girls are now 6-0 to start the season and will host Burlington City on Thursday in their next game.

The Boys Basketball Team competed in the West Windsor Plainsboro Tournament and finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.  After a close 3 point loss to West Windsor Plainsboro North High School, the boys responded with a 53-39 win over Delran High School.  Sam Adams led the offense with 15 points while Azmir Taylor added 11 to help earn the win for the Panthers.  The Panthers finished the tournament with a 49-43 victory over South Hunterdon High School.   Sam Adams again led the offense with 23 points.  Azmir Taylor contributed 10 points for the Panthers.  The boys are now 3-4 on the season and will travel to Willingboro on Thursday for their next game.
