NJ energy assistance for families

The NJ Board of Public Utilities (NJ BPU) has utility assistance programs for families that are behind on their utility bills.

This reminder is important because in January 2022, electric, gas and water utility companies in New Jersey will resume shut off of service when customers have unpaid overdue balances.

Please see below for the state energy assistance brochure and the NJ BPU's fall flyer. Please note that the income limits for these utility programs HAVE BEEN TEMPORARILY RAISED as of October 1st so more families will be able to access assistance they may need. For example, a household of four with an income at or below $106,000 per year can qualify for monthly credits and energy debt forgiveness through the Universal Service Fund (USF) program.
