-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports: Happy Monday Everyone!  We hope that you had a great weekend!  Here is a look at how our athletes performed last week:

The Baseball Team went 2-1 on the week.  After a tough 18-5 loss to Holy Cross on Tuesday, the boys responded by winning their next 2 games. 

The boys crushed Pleasantville High School on Friday, 13-0.  Joe Elmes returned from injury and went 2-3 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI’s.  He also pitched a complete game shutout, striking out 12.  Steve Peltz, Anthony Morgenstern, Dean Maute and Brayden Minnix all had 2 hits as well. 

The boys capped off their weekend with a 9-6 win over Pemberton on Saturday.  Steve Peltz and Brandon Howell each had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s for the Panthers.  Tom Staszak also had 2 RBI’s and Steve Peltz picked up the win pitching 4 innings and striking out 7.  The boys are now 4-5 on the season and will host Doane Academy this afternoon at Charles Street School.

The Softball Team had a 2-2 week.  They started the week with a 9-1 loss to Doane Academy but responded with an 18-4 crushing of Haddonfield High School on Tuesday.  Charlotte Reis had 4 hits and Aubrey Wagner had 3 hits to lead the offense.  Jisselle Martinez, Jasmine Martinez, Gabby Gray, Olivia Lynch, Sidney Lim and Jadiah Edwards all had multi-hit games as well.  Jasmine Martinez picked up the win striking out 9. 

The girls lost to Pitman on Thursday 12-2.  The girls recovered and thumped Salem High School on Friday, 15-5.  Olivia Lynch and Aubrey Wagner each had 3 hits offensively.  Jisselle Martinez, Jasmine Martinez, Gabby Gray, Sidney Lim, Charlotte Reis and Elsie Kenson each had 2 hits.  Jasmine Martinez was the winning pitcher, striking out 10 batters.  The girls are now 4-6 on the season and will travel to Pennsauken for their next game on Wednesday. 

The Spring Track & Field Teams competed last weekend in the Woodbury relays. The following relays and individuals won medals.

·         The boys Shuttle Hurdle Team of John Latimore, Jaleel Latimore, Abdul Iyiola and Charles Rosica won a 5th place medal.

·         The boys Sprint Medley Relay Team of John Latimore, Michael Monroe, Abdul Iyola and Colin Broadbelt won a 3rd place medal.

·         Jaleel Latimore placed 5th in the invitational high jump competition, jumping 6 ft for the first time.

Both Boys & Girls qualifiers were able to run at the prestigious Penn Relays this past weekend. (photos)

Golf:
The PHS Golf Team of Doug Aird represented PHS Golf at the Burlington County Open on Monday at Ramblewood Country Club.  He will golf at the Carl Arena Open this Thursday.

The Boys Tennis Team had a 2-0 week.  The boys opened the week with a 5-0 win over Burlington Township High School.  Julian Carlino(6-1, 6-3), Richie Butler(6-3, 6-0) and Connor McCann(6-4, 6-4) won their singles matches.  The doubles teams of Jaden Jennings/Owen Jacobs(6-2, 6-1) and Jack Timlin/Justin Smyth(1-6, 6-2, 10-5) won their doubles matches.  The boys finished their week with a 3-2 win over Florence High School.  Richie Butler(6-2, 7-5) and Connor McCann(6-3, 7-6) won their singles matches.  The doubles team of Jack Timlin/Justin Smyth won 6-2 and 6-1 to clinch the victory for the Panthers.  The boys are now 3-2 on the season and will return to action tomorrow at Pemberton High School.

====================M I D D L E   S C H O O L======================== 

The Middle School Girls & Boys Track Teams ran at Indian Mills Middle School on Monday.  The following athletes finished in the top 3 in their races:

  • Burak Sayin- 1st in the shot put and 200 and 3rd in the 100

  • Sebastion dela Pena-2nd in the mile

  • JJ Moran-3rd in the mile

  • Maya Richman-Dupont- 2nd in the mile

  • Jaxson Ridgway-1st in the 800

  • Jesus Martinez- 2nd in the 800

  • Kwame Chisholm-1st in the 100

  • Az-Zahra Pollard-2nd in the 200

·         4x100 Girls Team of Kyleigh Himel, Hailey Monroe, Alivia Brown and Khloe Hunter finished 2nd

·         4x100 Boys Team of Kwame Chisholm, Rafael Gonzalez, Jesus Martinez and Burak Sayin finished in 1st

Great Job!  They will run at Indian Mills Middle School again today.
