Panther Athletics Update featuring track members

-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports: Good Day Everyone! We hope that everyone had a great weekend with the beautiful weather!  Here is a look at how our athletes performed last week as we begin to close out the spring sports season.  Boys Tennis will start their playoffs this week with Baseball and Softball starting their playoff runs next week!

NJSIAA Scholar Athlete: On Sunday Anna Paszkiewicz represented Palmyra proudly as she was named our Scholar-Athlete at the NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Awards Program in Edison.  This is a very well-deserved honor and congrats to her on a fantastic 4 years at PHS!  Make sure to congratulate her when you see her!

The Boys & Girls Spring Track & Field Teams competed at the NJSIAA South Sectional Championships over the weekend at Pennsauken High School.  Congrats to seniors Sam Adams and Jaleel Latimore for becoming Sectional Champs!  Jaleel placed 1st in the high jump, jumping 6 feet and 4 inches.  Sam Adams finished 1st in the shot put, throwing 46 feet and 3.25 inches.  Sam also placed 2nd in the discus throw, with a throw of 138 feet and 8 inches.  Both Sam and Jaleel have advanced to the NJSIAA Group 1 State Championships in 2 weeks at Franklin High School.

Here are some other top results from the weekend.  Personal bests were run by:

  • Madison Grimes in the 100 and 200 dash

  • Maya Richman-Dupont in the 1600

  • Anna Rosica in the 400 hurdles

  • Zaria Welch in the Discus

  • Burak Sayin in the 100 dash

  • Michael Monroe in the 400 dash

  • Johnny Hammond in the 1600

  • Justin Clemons in the 1600

  • Josh Carter in the High Jump

The Baseball Team went 1-2 on the week.  The boys opened the week losing at Ewing High School 12-7.  Steve Peltz led the offense with 4 hits.  Anthony Morgenstern added 2 hits.  Dean Maute, Brandon Howell and Marques Washington each had a hit and an RBI.  Justin Dellisanti had a hit for the Panthers.  The boys rebounded with a 13-2 win over Pennsauken Tech on Tuesday.  Anthony Morgenstern had 3 hits and 2 RBI’s.  Justin Dellisanti had 2 hits and 3 RBI’s and Steve Peltz had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s.  Dean Maute had 2 hits and an RBI while Nate Bachich, Ian Smith, Noah Vaughn and Marques Washington each had a hit.  Steve Peltz picked up the win on the mound striking out 9. 
The Panthers finished their week with a 10-6 loss at South Hunterdon on Thursday.  Steve Peltz had 2 hits and 4 RBI’s to lead the offense.  Justin Dellisanti had a hit and 2 RBI’s.  Nate Bachich had a hit and scored a run while Brandon Howell added a hit.  The Panthers will resume play today at Burlington City High School.  They are currently 10-8 on the season.

The Softball Team had a 1-1 week.  The girls opened the week with an 11-1 loss against Sterling High School.  Aubrey Wagner had 2 hits for the Lady Panthers.  Jasmine Martinez, Jisselle Martinez, Olivia Lynch, Sidney Lim and Jadiah Edwards all added a hit. 
The girls responded with a win on Tuesday against Pemberton High School, 20-5.  Mailee Kahana had 3 hits and 3 RBI’s.  Jasmine Martinez, Jisselle Martinez, Olivia Lynch and Evie Aird all had hits for the Lady Panthers.  Jasmine Martinez picked up the win on the mound striking out 10.  The girls are now 6-10 on the season and will also travel to Burlington City for their next game today.

The Boys Tennis Team was rained out last week. They are competing at the BCSL Open today and will host a 1st round playoff match on Wednesday, weather permitting.

=====================MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS============================

The Middle School Track & Field Teams ran at Riverside Middle School in a dual meet on Tuesday for their final meet of the season.  Here are a few highlights from the meet:

  • Miles Wence finished the season strong, improving by 8 seconds in the 800 with a time of 3:04.9.

  • Rafael Gonzalez and Khloe Hunter both won the top heats of the 200m.

  • Hadassah DaSilva won the Girls 800m with a time of 3:08.1.

  • Khloe Hunter, Michael Airall, Summer Hall, and Rafael Gonzalez ran our first-ever Mixed 4x100 relay, running the team's fastest relay time of the year in 53.13.
