March is IRISH American History Month

On the eve of St. Patrick's Day, we salute our families & staff that are of Irish Heritage. In a year of the pandemic, we wish everyone slàinte mhath! [SLANtchih va] (Good Health)

March is National Irish American History Month.

The Archivist of the United States focuses on how the author of the book The Forgotten Irish was able to assemble rich backgrounds using the newly digitized records in the National Archives.

Over 200,000 Irish Americans served in the American Civil War with 180,00 of them fighting for the Union Army.   Stories abound on IrishAmericanHistory.com that include in-depth studies of the history of Ireland's Famine-Era Emigrants and the lives of men, women and children in 19th Century United States.

A fascinating discussion with the author, Damian Shiels can be seen at the base of the page on the National Archives website here.
