Winter Sports Update

-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports:                           Good Day ALL!  I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  We are winding down our Winter Sports and beginning to gear up for Spring Sports with sign-ups in the cafeteria this week.  There will be a HOME Girls Basketball game today and Wednesday.  

Here is a look at how we did last week:

Congrats to the Girls Basketball Team on wrapping up another BCSL Patriot Division Championship during the week!  The girls started the week with a 47-34 win over Group 3 Northern Burlington High School.  Cadence Anderson scored 21 points to lead the team in scoring.  Angelina Sauls and Ellie McCarron each scored 10 points.  The girls clinched the division with a 39-26 win over Pennsauken High School on Friday.  Cadence Anderson scored 19 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the girls to the division championship.  The girls lost to Haddon Township on Saturday in a South Jersey Invitational Basketball Tournament game, 33-18. Cadence led the Panthers in scoring with 9 points.  The girls are now 15-5 and will host Holy Cross High School in the gym tonight at 515PM.

The Boys Basketball Team had a big week going 4-0.  The boys started the week off with a 56-28 win over KIPP Academy on Monday.  Kwinten Ives scored 25 points while Damon Bailey added 13 for the Panthers.  The boys followed that win with a 77-38 thrashing of Delran High School.  Kwinten Ives led the Panthers in scoring with 16 points while Damon Bailey (13), Reed Wells (11) and Jesahi Robinson (10) were also all in double figures.  The boys blew out Maple Shade High School Friday night, 76-36.  Kwinten Ives scored 15 points to lead all scorers and Jase Jennings pitched in 13 points.  The Panthers finished off their undefeated week with a 77-72 come-from-behind victory over rival Riverside High School in double-overtime on Saturday.  Reed Wells led the way this time with a monster game, scoring 20 points and grabbing 17 rebounds.  Kwinten Ives (15), Damon Bailey (12), Jaykob Ott (11) and Jesahi Robinson (10) were all in double figures as well.  The Panthers improved their record to 10-9 on the season and will travel to STEM Civics for a division game today.

The Wrestling Team travelled to Clayton High School on Saturday for a tri.  The Panthers went 1-1 beating Cedar Creek 51-30.  Winners on the mat for the Panthers were Trevor Young, Chace Mulherin, Justin Moore and Ryan Riley.  The Panthers are now 8-13 on the season and will travel to Paulsboro High School this afternoon for their 1st Round NJSIAA Playoff Match.

The PHS Winter Track and Field Team traveled to Toms River on Monday and it was another great day at the Bubble for the Palmyra Track Team.  

Top 10 finishers were:

  • Abdul Iyiola in the 400 meter dash.  Abdul placed 3rd and ran a personal best time.  
  • Joe Russell placed 8th in the High Jump and 5th in the Pole Vault.  

Personal best performances were had by:

  • Natalie Sherrill in the 400
  • Anna Rosica in the 55 hurdles and 55 dash
  • Sanaa Christmas in the 55 dash
  • Trista Cross in the shot put
  • Nolan Falicki in the 400 and 55 dash
  • Joe Russell in the 55 hurdles
  • Jacob Miller in the 55 Hurdles and 55 dash
  • Owen Jacobs in the 3200
  • Colin Broadbelt and Pat Broadbelt in the 800

The track and field team will travel to Toms River this Wednesday and to Cherokee on Thursday in preparation for the NJSIAA Sectional Championships on Sunday.

The Middle School Girls Basketball Team ended the season with a 10-3 record and with a win over Moorestown Friends 30-23.  Az-Zahra Pollard led the team with 14 points and Ava Sims had 11 points.  Mailee Kahana had 4 points.  The team as a whole played very hard to earn the win.  Congrats on a terrific season! 

The Middle School Boys Basketball Team won on Tuesday against Riverside 49-16. Blake Wood led scoring with 10 points and Dorian Davis added 8. Declan Sharkey and Josh Carter joined the team and Declan knocked in back-to-back 3 pointers and Josh hit a layup at the buzzer to end the game. The boys finished the season with a win against Moorestown Friends, 56-29.  Jayden Boone led all scorers with 14 and Zacharius Michel added 12.  The boys finished 10-6 on the season, everyone scored and started at least one game and represented the school with class.

The Middle School Wrestling Team’s match was postponed until this Thursday at 4:30 in the PHS Gym.
